U17 ELITE PLAYER PROFILES
   

#-MALIK JOHNSON -SF/SG - 6'6
Punahou - 2012

Malik plays Small Forward and Shooting Guard for the Sharks.  He has a solid all around inside/outside game and is an outstanding scorer in a myriad of different ways.  Malik can score from the 3pt line and in the post and has an outstanding first step.  He is also a very good passer and defender.  Malik is a second year Varsity basketball player at Punahou School.  This year he helped lead Punahou to its 3rd place finish in the State.  He was named to the 2009-2010 Hawaii All-State Basketball Second Team, and All ILH League 1st Team.  


   
# - DEFOREST BUCKNER - C - 6'8
Punahou - 2012

Deforest plays Center and Power Forward for the Sharks.  At 6'8 Deforest is an outstanding athletic big man who can score in the post, in the mid-range, and from the 3 pt line.  He is an outstanding finisher and dunker in transition.  Deforest is also a very good defender and shot-blocker who establishes position very well and understands angles.  Deforest is a 2nd year Varsity basketball player at Punahou School.  This year he helped lead Punahou to its 3rd place finish in the State.  He was named to the Hawaii All-State 1st Team and All ILH League 1st Team.  Deforest is also a heavily recruited football player at Punahou where he plays Defensive End.  
   
#- MARCUS KEENE - PG - 5'10
Moanalua HS - 2013

Marcus plays PG for the Sharks.  He is a crafty ball-handler and passer and is outstanding at leading the break.  Marcus is also a solid outside shooter and is very good at getting to the paint.  Marcus has an excellent understanding of tempo and is an outstanding leader / quarterback of the team.  Marcus is 1st year Varsity player at Moanalua High School.  This season he helped lead Moanalua to the OIA Red (Large Division) Title.  He was named to the Hawaii All-State Basketball Team (Honorable Mention) and the All-OIA Red Second Team.  

   
#- AUSTIN GASKINS - SF - 6'4
HS Pending - 2012

Austin plays Small Forward and Shooting Guard for the Sharks.  Very athletic, Austin is a slasher who is a very good scorer driving to the basket and from the 3 point line.  In 2008 as a freshman, Austin played Varsity basketball for Kapolei High school where he was named to the All-OIA Red West Team (Honorable Mention).  This past year, Austin sat out the basketball season as he plans to transfer to a new high school per the Hawaii State transfer rules.  

   
# - LUKE KAUMATELE -PF/C- 6'9
Entering Punahou - 2012

Luke plays Center and Power Forward for the Sharks.  He is a strong post player with a very hard work ethic.  In 2008, during his freshman year, Luke played Varsity Basketball at Kapolei High School where he named to the All-OIA West Team (Honorable Mention).  Luke sat out the 2009 basketball season as he planned to transfer to a new high school per the Hawaii State transfer rules.  Luke will be attending Punahou School in 2010-2011.  He is also a heavily recruited football player at Defensive End and Tight End.

 


 
#- MARCUS MONROE - 6'4 - SG 
Moanalua HS - 2010

Marcus plays Shooting Guard for the Sharks.  Marcus is an explosive jumper, athlete, and finisher at the rim.  Marcus is also an excellent shooter from 3-point line and can score as either a slasher or shooter.  Marcus is a 4th Year Varsity Basketball player at Moanalua HS.  This season he helped lead Moanalua to the OIA Red (Large Division) Title.  He was named to the Hawaii All-State Basketball Team 1st Team and the All-OIA Red First Team.  

   
# - BRIAN MATSUKAWA - PG - 5'10
Punahou - 2012

Brian plays Point Guard and Shooting Guard for the Sharks.  A deadly 3 point shooter, Brian also has a very good understanding of game tempo and is a good defender.  Brian is a 1st year Varsity Basketball player for Punahou and helped the team to its 3rd place finish in the State.   

   
#- PATRICK MATTEWS - SG/SF - 6'5
Mid-Pacific Institute HS - 2011

Patrick plays Shooting Guard and Small Forward for the Sharks.  Patrick is a very good shooter from the 3- point line and from mid-range.  He also a nice post game.  Patrick is a 2nd Year Varsity basketball player for Mid-Pacific Institute High School.  In 2007 he played his freshman year on the Varsity Basketball team at Hawaii Baptist Academy where he helped lead the team to the ILH Division II Championship.  That year he was also named to the All-ILH Division II Team (Honorable Mention).  In 2008 he sat out the basketball season per the Hawaii State transfer rules.  In 2009 he played Varsity basketball for Mid-Pacific where he was named to the All-ILH Division I Team (Honorable Mention).      

   
# - PATRICK O'NEILL - PG - 5'10
Punahou - 2011

Patrick plays Point Guard for the Sharks.  A very strong and quick player, Patrick is an excellent on-ball defensive player and passer in transition.  Patrick is a 1st year Varsity Basketball player for Punahou and helped the team to its 3rd place finish in the State.  Patrick also plays football for Punahou where he is a safety.  Patrick is an outstanding student who is being recruited by Ivy league colleges.

   

# - HASSAN RICHARDSON - SF/PF- 6'5
MILILANI HS - 2011

Hassan plays Power Forward and Small Forward for the Sharks.  Hassan is an outstanding athlete who can score in the post and also has a nice mid-range game.  Hassan is a 3rd year Varsity basketball player for Mililani High School.  This year he was named to the Hawaii All-State Basketball Team (Honorable Mention) and the All-OIA Red West 1st Team.  Hassan also plays football for Mililani where he is being recruited as an outstanding receiver.
